Mountain bike- Hendaye- Banyuls-sur-Mer
It had originally been planned to do the GR10 in August but due to a couple of logistical problems we have decided that I’ll do Hendaye- Banyuls on a mountain bike to create awareness of Cystic Fibrosis.
This really is a huge challenge as it involves a huge amount of carrying on steep tracks, some climbing with my bike on my back, far from any help and in the full heat of summer.
For this trip I’ll be using parts of the GR10, GR11, HRP etc which will give me a total of over 780km (525miles) and over 31,000m of ascent (101,000feet).
I have found a few internet sites of people who have done this before on a mountain bike (I did it on a road bike in 2005) via various different routes but the quickest was in 12days. To make it a challenge and push my limits once again we are aiming for 100hours (4days and 4 hours).
With the plan we have put together at present I’ll leave Hendaye on the 3rd of of August and hope to arrive in Banyuls-sur-Mer by midday on the 7th August.
